By:"Stewart Burns"
Published on 2012-01-01 by Univ of North Carolina Press
E-book Library:"History"
The Montgomery bus boycott was a formative moment in twentieth-century history: a harbinger of the African American freedom movement, a springboard for the leadership of Martin Luther King Jr., and a crucial step in the struggle to realize the American dream of liberty and equality for all. In Daybreak of Freedom, Stewart Burns presents a groundbreaking documentary history of the boycott. Using an extraordinary array of more than one hundred original documents, he crafts a compelling and comprehensive account of this celebrated year-long protest of racial segregation. Daybreak of Freedom reverberates with the voices of those closest to the bus boycott, ranging from King and his inner circle, to Jo Ann Robinson and other women leaders who started the protest, to the maids, cooks, and other 'foot soldiers' who carried out the struggle. With a deft narrative hand and editorial touch, Burns weaves their testimony into a riveting story that shows how events in Montgomery pushed the entire nation to keep faith with its stated principles.

By:
Published on 2009-02-11 by Dave Friant
E-book Library:"Sports & Recreation"
A step-by-step instruction manual on how to build a lightweight 'environmentally-friendly' boat with recyclable resources. The boats simply fold up from ¼” thick cardboard obtaining their strength from the geometry of the component parts. The boats are 8-feet long, weigh about 25-pounds, and can accommodate a 250-pound person without risking structural damage. Each boat is constructed with 21-pieces of cardboard that are used to make 7-component parts. The 7 parts are assembled together with 'environmentally-friendly' contact cement and paper drywall tape. Once assembled the boats are sealed with an 'environmentally-friendly' water-based waterproof coating. No special tools are required and they are very simple to build. All of the materials used to build a boat are typically found at 'do-it-yourself' home improvement stores. The boats can be outfitted with 12-volt electric fishing motors, although they are typically propelled with traditional Kayak style paddles.

This book consists of 43 short fairy tales. This series of tales describes the 88 known constellations of our night sky.In the book the tales are collected and written by an astrologer, Lee. She travels across the world and presents people with her tales. These tales remind children and adults that the planet Earth with its inhabitants is just a little part of the universe. In these tales, people, birds, animals and scientific instruments are turned into the constellations. In each tale the good people, birds and animals understand one another. And only wicked creatures cannot live in harmony. The tales teach children to distinguish between good and evil. The author composed the tales on the basis of prehistoric megalithic culture to provoke the readers’ interest towards the history, archaeology and science equally with the interest towards astronomy and the beauty of the night sky. The book is suitable for older children and adults. There are many colour illustrations. This book contains the preface by Russian cosmonaut A. Soloviov. The book is illustrated by the author.

By:"... Ademuni-Odeke","Dr. Ademuni-Odeke"
Published on 1997-12-11 by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers
E-book Library:"Law"
This exhaustive book deals with the most important phenomenon in the evolution and development of international ship registration: organisation and management. Bareboat charters, a system of leasing in which a person takes over a vessel for a limited time in return for a payment to the shipowner, have become especially popular in the 1980s and 1990s. Yet only the odd article or pamphlet has emerged in this vital area; no comparable publication exists. The uncertainties in this area demand a practical resource. National legislation is not synchronised. The distinction between bareboat charters and flags of convenience remains unclear. These blurred lines and others can have dramatic results, leaving ship mortgages unprotected and threatening the vessel's hull policy. \

Mr. Palais theorizes in his important book on Korea that the remarkable longevity of the Yi dynasty (1392-1910) was related to the difficulties the country experienced in adapting to the modern world. He suggests that the aristocratic and hierarchical social system, which was the source of stability of the dynasty, was also the cause of its weakness. The period from 1864 to 1873 was one in which the monarchy attempted to increase and expand central power at the expense of the powerful aristocracy. But the effort failed, and 1874 saw a rebirth of bureaucratic and aristocratic dominance. What this meant when Korea was \

Thank youTorsion and Shear Stresses in Ships
By:"Mohamed Shama"
Published on 2010-09-27 by Springer Science & Business Media
E-book Library:"Technology & Engineering"
In the last few decades, much research work was conducted to improve ship structure analysis and design. Most of the efforts were directed to improve the strength of hull girder and to use the method of finite element analysis more efficiently and effectively. Because of the high degree of complexity of ship structures the interaction between hull girder strength and local strength require special attention. The complex system of stresses could produce unacceptable deformations and high values of equivalent stresses. This book covers an area of ship structure analysis and design that has not been exhaustively covered by other books on ship structures in a simple form. It presents the basic concepts of the methods and procedures required to calculate torsion and shear stresses in ship structures. Moreover, it is enhanced with a set of some solved and unsolved problems, very useful for students of naval and marine engineering.

The authors of this book have developed a new and stimulating approach to the analysis of the transitions of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia to democracy and a market economy. They integrate interdisciplinary theoretical work with elaborate empirical data on some of the most challenging events of the twentieth century. Three groups of phenomena and their causal interconnection are explored: the material legacies, constraints, habits and cognitive frameworks inherited from the past; the erratic configuration of new actors, and new spaces for action; and a new institutional order under which agency is institutionalized and the sustainability of institutions is achieved. The book studies the interrelations of national identities, economic interests, and political institutions with the transformation process, concentrating on issues of constitution making, democratic infrastructure, the market economy, and social policy.
